If every business trip could be like this one, I’d be travelling every week. Copenhagen didn’t just deliver on meetings, it gave us food, football, and some unforgettable moments.
In a digital-first, AI-driven world, we believe more than ever in the power of face-to-face connection. This trip was about building relationships, sharing ideas in person, and creating the kind of human connection you simply can’t replicate over video calls.
Day 1 – Hitting the ground running (luggage in tow)
The trip started with a meet-up with my colleague Toni at Split Airport, and a direct flight straight to Copenhagen.
Direct flights equals no stress, no sprinting through airports, just a smooth arrival into Denmark.
After a quick transfer into the city, we had time for a coffee before our first meeting and first impressions of Copenhagen? I loved it. Stylish, calm, effortlessly cool.
Buzz, burgers and late check-In
Our first stop was a meeting with our new client Emma, CTO of the Buzz Group. With over 35 restaurants across Denmark and Norway, Buzz is an exciting partner for us and this project represents a significant opportunity.
Meeting in person was invaluable, and Jagger, one of their own restaurants, was the ideal setting. We discussed plans for the collaboration over lunch, and Emma recommended the spicy chicken burger, which more than lived up to its reputation. It was a productive and enjoyable start to the trip.
Still carrying our luggage through the city, we made time for another quick coffee before meeting Rafael from Pyne. It was a valuable opportunity to catch up, exchange ideas, and discuss the possibility of Rafael speaking at our upcoming tech.coffee meetup in Split, an event designed to connect Nordic and Mediterranean tech communities. From there, we continued on to our next stop.
Flatlist, beers and two Jakobs
We met Jakob from Flatlist at their city-centre store, where we were able to see their latest products, discuss ongoing plans, and meet the store team.
Jakob then suggested we continue the conversation over a drink, and we joined him at a local pub. It was a great opportunity to build rapport and exchange ideas in a more informal setting.
Later that evening, we were scheduled to meet another Jakob, this time from Oak Digital and invited him to join us at the same location. The relaxed environment made for some great chat.
Football and an apartment with a view
After saying goodbye to Jakob from Flatlist, Jakob from Oak Digital invited us to a stylish Parisian-style café serving excellent open sandwiches. It was a great opportunity to continue conversations and meet some of his friends in a relaxed setting.
During the evening, we learned that FC Copenhagen were playing FC Basel in the Champions League. We found a great spot to watch the match, and the atmosphere was incredible. Copenhagen’s win and qualification for the next round made it an even more memorable experience.
Around midnight, we took a taxi to our apartment, luggage still in tow and finally checked in. After a brief battle with the key system, we were rewarded with panoramic views of the city. A stunning way to end the day.
Day one had it all: meaningful client meetings, great food, strong conversations, and a little local culture to round it off.
Day 2 – Tekla, Scottish accents and great food
After a great night’s sleep, we woke up to that incredible city view and made full use of the apartment’s excellent coffee machine (essential). With espressos in hand, we caught up on some work before heading to visit Tekla, a key client of ours for over four years.
Our partnership with Tekla has been significant, spanning the transformation of their digital presence and the development of their e-commerce operations. Together, we’ve implemented and evolved their webshop on the robust MedusaJS open-source platform and built a custom POS system to support their retail operations.
Their new office located right on the docks, is nothing short of stunning, a perfect reflection of their brand. We spent a highly productive day catching up with the team, sharing ideas, and aligning on next steps, all rounded off with a healthy lunch.
Human connections over dinner
Later, we met with Nicklas COO, from Medusa for dinner in the city centre. Although we had spoken several times over video calls, meeting face-to-face added a valuable dimension to the relationship.
Over an excellent meal, our conversation ranged from our role as Medusa experts to broader topics, strengthening both the personal and professional connection. Partway through, I noticed the waitress’s familiar accent, she turned out to be from Scotland. It was a small but memorable moment, reminding me how connected the world can feel, even when working internationally.
After a productive and enjoyable evening, we said our goodbyes to Nicklas and returned to the apartment to recharge for the next day.
Day 3 – Coffee, football stadium and the big finish
Day 3 started the same way, great coffee and a bit of work before heading out to our first meeting of the day with Barkas design agency. Their office was brilliant, cool design, great vibe and we had a really good chat, getting to know each other better.
They recommended La Banchina for coffee and open sandwiches, and it didn’t take much convincing. The place was super trendy, probably too cool for us but perfect for a mid-morning recharge.
Palmes, POS and matching jackets
Next, we headed to see Sofie and Mads from Palmes. We demoed our upcoming POS starter app, had a really good discussion about eCommerce in general, and got to see their very cool store.
And, in a moment of excellent decision-making, Toni and I bought matching jackets to take home. Because nothing says “productive business trip” quite like turning up at the airport looking like we’re launching a very exclusive two-man fashion line.
Loyal, laughs and Jah Izakaya
Our next stop was a meeting with the team at Loyal right at the football stadium. Sometimes you meet people and just click straight away. This was one of those moments.
Toni and I have discovered we make quite the double act: Toni with his quick wit, me with my comebacks. Safe to say there was plenty of laughter, along with solid business talk.
The perfect end
We wrapped up the trip with dinner at a Jah Izakaya Japanese restaurant, amazing food, sake (of course), and a chance to reflect on the last few days.
An incredible trip: great meetings, brilliant food, and a few memorable pints along the way.
Copenhagen, eCommerce experts will be back in October.
